Steak Pizzaiola

Steak Piazzola

Buon Pomeriggio! Italian for good afternoon :) Among one of the many things I like including baking, I love cooking as well and learning languages. My native language is Spanish, but as you can probably tell I am bilingual in English. I am also conversational in French and know little to basic Italian. But I am planning on becoming fluent in Italian and Portuguese. There is just something about latin or romance languages that appeals to me. I’m still trying to figure out what it is, but if I give it a shot I’ll say that it is the culture and traditions that go hand in hand when learning a language. Within the culture of every country you can find a culinary aspect of course. So I guess my passions and hobbies go well together. Learning languages allows me to seek out recipes in more than one language. So just like the last post. This recipe is also Italian, but it is not a sweet treat. Still hope you enjoy it, this is Steak Pizzaiola :)

Unlike the last recipe I did not take it from a book. This recipe I learned from a TV cooking show, which in my opinion is one of the best cooking shows I’ve seen. As host of the show you have Buddy (I’m pretty sure you will recognize him) from Cake Boss. Although he is a baker, he also cooks for his family and shares these recipes. Anyway, enough with the chit chat here goes, you will need the following ingredients:

Mushrooms

Red Onions

Garlic

Red and yellow peppers

Plum tomatoes

Parsley

Oregano

Salt

Pepper

Rib eye Steak

Olive Oil

Notice that I didn’t give any measurements. Well that’s because it depends on how many people will enjoy this meal and also how you want the proportions of each ingredient to be. Whether you want more mushrooms or more onions, it’s all up to you. So let’s start with the sauce:

  1. Caramelize the mushrooms in just olive oil. Great tip from Buddy you never want to wash the mushrooms because it takes the flavor away, just wipe them down with a towel enough to remove the dirt. Include salt and pepper to the taste.
  2. Add the red onions, no worries to separate all the rings. Cook both onions and mushrooms well to get the flavors going.
  3. Next add chopped garlic, red and yellow peppers and add more olive oil. Let it all cook for a while.
  4. Finally include plum tomatoes with their juice, add chopped parsley and oregano.

Sauce ready!

Then you will just want to grill the meat in any way you like, I fried it in a pan. And serve the meat with the sauce on top. To accompany this I included plain pasta and some arugula with olive oil. And there you go.

Hope you enjoyed this recipe :)
